An extension publication on unclaimed property (funds) prompted me, as executor of my parents' estate, to conduct a search for money that might be owed my parents who had resided in New York State. It was easy to use the state's website and, sure enough, both my parents' names showed up as being owed money from health insurance companies when they were in assisted living. It took awhile and required getting some forms notarized but today a check for $163.74 showed up in the mail, courtesy of the State of New York. So, check out your state's unclaimed funds website. A good place to start is the website for the National Association of Unclaimed Funds Administrators website: https://www.unclaimed.org/ which allows a free multi-state search. Never pay for this service. You can easily do it yourself and you might be pleasantly surprised.
